Abstract
Cancer remains a leading global health challenge, with conventional therapies often limited by non-specific targeting, severe side effects, and insufficient therapeutic outcomes. This review delves into recent advances in nanomedicine that position it as a transformative approach in cancer diagnosis and treatment. It emphasizes innovations in nanoparticle (NP) design, particularly those enabling precise targeting of cancer cells and the simultaneous delivery of therapeutics and imaging agents. Key developments include multifunctional NPs tailored for detecting biomarkers such as cancer-associated proteins, ctDNA, CTCs, and exosomes, as well as novel strategies for overcoming pharmacokinetic and safety limitations. This review prioritizes emerging nanocarrier platforms—spanning organic, inorganic, lipid-based, and polymer-based systems—and evaluates their clinical applications, highlighting examples already approved or in clinical trials. Unique insights are provided into challenges hindering nanomedicine's commercialization, including regulatory barriers and scalability, alongside strategies to address these issues. By offering a focused discussion on cutting-edge technologies and their translational potential, this review contributes a forward-looking perspective on the role of nanomedicine in the ongoing battle against cancer.
