Application of Buluhpring Bamboo for Flexural Reinforcement in Concrete Beam

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

In the current era, reinforced concrete is used in various developments, including for marine infrastructure, making steel production increasingly high and not environmentally friendly. Bamboo is an alternative to steel reinforcement in concrete since it is a plant that is easily accessible in many places and one of the quickest growing plants. Aside from being environmentally benign, bamboo is superior to steel in terms of corrosion resistance. Bending tests were performed on bamboo as concrete reinforcement to measure the deflection that occurred in this study. As guides, 200 mm x 150 mm 3000 mm concrete beams with Buluhpring type bamboo reinforcement were employed, as were 10 mm diameter steel reinforcement concrete beam test samples. Following 28 days, the concrete block samples were evaluated using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM). According to the test results, the average deflection value in bamboo-reinforced concrete beams is 35.31 mm and 42.28 mm in steel-reinforced concrete beams. When bamboo-reinforced concrete beams have a deflection value of 83% of the maximum deflection value of steel-reinforced concrete beams, the results suggest that they have good ductility.
