Abstract

This research presents design and analysis of a monopole antenna for early oral cancer detection. An operating frequency of ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) at 2.45 GHz, the antenna was simulated to assess its electromagnetic wave interaction with human body tissues. The antenna with dimensions of 27.65 mm in length and 3.00 mm in diameter, showed favorable performance. VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) value of 1.57 dB, a return loss value of -13.01 dB, and a gain value of 3.389 dBi in simulations. Fabrication results demonstrated an improved VSWR of 1.01 dB and a significant return loss of -49.0 dB, with a gain of 21.65 dBi. The simulations also investigated the antenna's behavior within the oral cavity, revealing a decrease in gain and an increase in power loss density, demonstrating the effects of body tissue on electromagnetic wave propagation. These findings emphasize the antenna's potential for practical applications in oral cancer detection, while also highlighting challenges due to signal attenuation caused by human tissue. The research aims to contribute to the development of effective, non-invasive health monitoring systems for early disease detection, particularly in oncology.
